Our Pipers
The Kuwait Caledonian Society is proud to have a dedicated Pipe Band with several accomplished Pipers. In addition to providing appropriate entertainment at Society events, the Pipers meet regularly to practice and provide training to many student pipers. The Band even has a few drummers. The Pipe Band has many new recruits of all ages. who meet for practice sessions every Monday night at the home of Bader Mohammad in Fintas. If you have are interested in learning the pipes or drums, please contact Bader at matchnstorm@yahoo.co.uk for more information. He is also the one to contact for arranging band functions and performances.

Honorary pipe-major and driving force behind the Kuwait Caledonian Society and its Pipe Band, Bader studied the pipes 16 years ago on an intensive 6 week course in Scotland. He has supported and taught the instrument in Kuwait ever since. Keith Armstrong (Scot - piper)
2 years in Kuwait, Keith played for 6 years, 35 years ago in Scotland, playing with the Summerhill Academy School Band and Aberdeen Boys Band before giving up the instrument for almost 30 years. He picked up the pipes again in early 2003 and has played in the band since February 2004. John Weston (Canadian - piper)
8 years in Kuwait, John took instruction 35 years ago in Canada, played for dancing competitions and in the ANAVET 60 pipe band in Winnipeg. Like Keith, he gave up the instrument for almost 29 years. John was inspired by Bader to restart the instrument in 2003 and has also performed with the band since February 2004. Talal (Kuwaiti - snare drum)
All his life in Kuwait. Talal is in the Kuwait Army, and has been playing drums for 7 years. He joined the band summer 2004. Talal is single, ladies! Greg Witt (Canadian - piper)
4 years in Kuwait, Greg led and played with the Edmonton Boys Pipe Band, and later with the Competition Grade 1 Edmonton Caledonia Pipe Band. The 2004 St. Andrews Ball marks the first time Greg has played in 4 years. Stuart King (British - novice piper)
Virtually his entire life in Kuwait, young Stuart took up the chanter in February 2004. The 2004 St. Andrews Ball marks his first-ever public performance. The Pipe Band also has a number of other novice and experienced pipers who we hope will be performing for you soon. These members include Philip Weston, Jared Gordon, David Gordon and Allessandra Roddick among others. |
